Beer is, fundamentally, fermented cereals. By far the most popular cereal used in the manufacture of beer, at least in the UK and Europe, is barley – although other cereals such as wheat are also commonly used, either on their own or in combination with barley and other cereals. Other cereals that are used for brewing beer in various parts of the world include oats, rice, corn (maize), millet and sorghum.
