When I wrote about Belhaven Twisted Thistle, I titled the post “Bitter and Twisted” – knowing, but for some reason ignoring the fact, that there is a beer of that name. Well, in an effort to set the record straight (or possibly to confuse even further), I thought I should sample Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted (4.2%).
It is a blonde beer with a light, fresh smell and sharp, hoppy bitter taste. The bottle notes declare that it is “spicy, aromatic and zesty”, and I have to agree. It is a very pleasant beer. Having visited their website, I now know that it was voted the World’s Best Ale at the World Beer Awards in 2007, and is one of Roger Protz’s Top Ten Must Try British Beers – well I’ve tried it, and I liked it!
