Black Sheep Ale (bottle, 4.4%) from Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, N. Yorkshire – formed by Paul, the “black sheep” of the Theakston family when the family company was sold to Scottish & Newcastle in the late 1980’s.  The Black Sheep Brewery has been in operation since 1992.  Incidentally, the family company – T&R Theakston – has been back in the family’s hands since 2003.  Anyway, back to the beer – I found this to be quite nice, but kind of “medium” all round – nothing special – medium colour, medium head, medium bitterness.  That’s not to say that it isn’t a good beer – it is, but probably not one that would be at the top of my list of favourites.  Mind you, I might try another bottle in a few months’ time and come up with an entirely different view – I find that my enjoyment of beer depends a lot on my mood – and the good thing about not being a beer “expert” is that I don’t have to be consistent, I’m allowed to change my mind.

A fellow blogger based in Florida, USA that I have been in contact with didn’t have a very good experience with his bottle of this beer (http://www.dailybeerreview.com/2009/03/black-sheep-ale.html).  Maybe it doesn’t travel very well.
