Get political to save the pub

We all know of pubs that have closed down because they couldn’t afford to continue in business.  Well, it’s going to get worse unless somebody stands up for the protection of pubs and all they stand for.  That’s where the Axe The Beer Tax campaign comes in.  This is an association of companies and individuals who want to bring the plight of pubs to the attention of the public and of the politicians who, in theory, have the power to do something about it.

The campaign’s five demands are:

  1. To stop plans to increase beer tax by up to a third
  2. To enforce existing laws – not create new ones – to deal firmly with irresponsible drinkers and premises
  3. To end the irresponsible promotion of alcohol in supermarkets, pubs and elsewhere
  4. To trust responsible adults to make informed choices about what they drink, not punish them for the actions of an irresponsible minority
  5. To support the British pub as a vital part of social life in local communities.

You can find out more at the Axe The Beer Tax web site – where you can also send an email lobbying your local MP.  There are also links to join Facebook and YouTube groups
